Night before/morning of this photo, this big boy made quite the mess in the Chautauqua area alleys.

Hazing the bear so he stays in the tree until nightfall. It may seem mean, but we're trying to keep him up there until it's safe for him to come down when less people and cars are around. And, we don't want the bears to get too used to humans!

From a distance, this yearling is not easily spotted, even on a bustling college campus.

A yearling bear made the mistake of lingering too far into downtown Boulder- just one block away from the Pearl Street Mall. For about 14 hours, he was stuck in this tree because the local newspaper posted the bear's location on social media. Throughout the day, hundreds of bystanders came by to see the bear, making it extremely unsafe for the bear to come down. By the end of the day, the area had to be taped off; 6 bearsitters, 4 rangers, and 2 police officers were on site mainly to manage the crowds. The bear came down, nearly ran into a crowd of people, dodged two oncoming cars, only to end back up in a resident's backyard tree. We can only hope this experience was so terrible that this poor bear won't ever want to come back to the city.
